About Us

The Turning Point is not new – we’ve been walking this road for over 12 years.

Tanya McCarthy - Founder of The Turning Point

Tanya, a qualified Remedial Therapist, has:

  • Worked with curriculum providers

  • Supported homeschool families

  • Successfully run a Study Hub pre-covid

  • 100% pass rate at the Hub for IEB Matriculants

With her specialisation in dyslexia and learning barriers, Tanya has helped hundreds of children who don’t fit the traditional model. The Turning Point Academy is built on her understanding that many learners just need the right pace, personal attention and someone who believes in them.

Ben, a Teacher and Registered Counsellor has:

  • 15 years of educational leadership experience, as Principal and Executive Head

  • Extensive knowledge of school curriculums, policies and students needs

  • Started a traditional school, building it from the ground up

  • Run his own private practice as a Counsellor and Parent Coach

With his background in education and psychology, Ben offers a unique blend of understanding what it takes to succeed academically, while ensuring that every child is understood for who they are as an individual.

For those students who need a gentle, loving environment, we’ve taken our 50 years of combined experience and created an academy where your child won’t just survive, but they will thrive.

  • Affiliated with Impaq, Cambrilearn, Brainline and TTP Academy
  • Venues in Olivedale and Randpark Ridge (Cape Town coming soon)

  • We encourage active involvement in all aspects of life

Study Hub & Tutor Centre

  • Monday – Friday
  • 08h00 – 13h00
  • Structured Schedule
  • Experienced Tutors
  • Various Curriculum Options to choose from (Evolve, Impaq, Brainline, Cambrilearn)
  • Test and Exam Invigilation

  • R3900 for 4 days per week and R4900 for 5 days per week

Private Tuition

  • Private Facilitator at home Monday – Friday

  • Three hours per day
  • Structured weekly timetable
  • Experienced Tutors
  • Various Curriculum Options to choose from (Evolve, Impaq, Brainline, Cambrilearn)
  • Test and Exam Invigilation
